What is Best?

Image
Posted by: Brian Edmond allthingsbc.com They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” 1 Corinthians 14:40 (ESV) But all things should be done decently and in order. Scripture is inspired by God and He will never contradict Himself. When we are inconsistent, He is Consistent. Jesus did things decently and in good order. Do I? Jesus wanted to teach His disciples without distraction (verse 30: “he did not want anyone to know”). He sought seclusion in order to prepare them for His death. Jesus is always thinking what is best. Sometimes we get too caught up in our circumstances rather than taking a step back to see what is best. Jesus had a perspective that was based on His Father’s Kingdom not on things below: 2 Timothy 2:4 (ESV) No soldier gets entangled i...

Without a Doubt

Image
Mark 6:1-6 (ESV) Jesus Rejected at Nazareth He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went about among the villages teaching. Jesus wants us to believe him. He was so familiar to the people around him that they missed who he really was. He could have done so much more for these people had ...

How Then Should We Live?

Image
Our culture teaches that leaning on self is the way to go.  Self-focus, living one’s best life, and adhering to our own personal truths is the message of modern day society.  Sadly all of these self-focused messages lead to frustration, loneliness, conflict and division.  From this comes an almost universal sense of disillusion, depression and overwhelming fear and anxiety because life just isn’t looking like society tells us and we believe it should. The actual truth is that what the world is selling people is precisely the opposite of what truth really is and where lasting peace and joy can be found. There is one truth and that is God’s truth and it really is quite simple. Lasting peace, joy and fulfillment are only found in being God focused instead of self-focused. That said, how then should we live? Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.   Matthew 22:37-38 Seek firs...

The Simplicity in Christ

Image
Post by: Stacy Edmond   But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3 So, what is the “simplicity that is in Christ”?  It is the Gospel. The Gospel message is the story of Jesus Christ.  It is God’s plan of salvation for fallen humanity. It is a simple message, yet we often make it complicated and clouded with our own flawed human reasoning, which can keep ourselves and others away from the truth of who Jesus is and what He has done for us. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 God loved us so much, that even though He knew we would sin, He had a plan to save us, so that we could one day be perfected and be with Him for eternity. Jesus came into this world to die for our sins; He was buried, and the third day He rose from the dead. It cost Him greatly, but for us,...

False Teachers

Image
“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.” ‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭ “For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error.” ‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬ ‭ “then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,” ‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬ ‭ “suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you.” ‭...

Should Christians Divorce?

Image
DIVORCE DOES NOT COME FROM GOD  Division does not come from God. Divorce goes against God’s design, ministry of reconciliation, and several of His commands. You cannot obey God and seek divorce. Most people do not set out for divorce. In the beginning you cannot wait to be together. Over time, offenses set in and build invisible walls. Unforgiveness is the culprit. Divorce has catastrophic seen and unforeseen consequences. Jesus said the only instance when divorce was possible was in adultery but even then it is not a command. He would rather see reconciliation. Life will not be better with a divorce. In fact, it could even grow worse even though you dream or imagine that life will be better away from the person you are married to. Most likely these thoughts are based in unforgiveness and hate—two things that God says are an abomination. If you are being abused then certainly remove yourself from any situation that is harmful. Just make sure that God would agree that your honesty,...
