Knowing God’s Will

Image
If you want to know God’s will, read your Bible! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. When you’re looking for guidance, and seeking God’s will for your life, you can find the answers you’re looking for by simply seeking His will in His word (the Bible) and adjusting your life to what He shows you.  Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. God will teach you His principles and guide you as you open the Bible and seek Him in His word.  Do your attitudes and actions line up with what you read there? Each of us must be willing to square up to what He shows us about ourselves in His word and be willing to change. We are sinful and must allow God to cleanse our hearts through His gift of repentance.  The Bible is clear about...

Ignorance or Fruit

Galatians 5:16-17 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. John 15:8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. Should we walk through life  ignorant of ourselves and whether we are living contrary to the love and will of God?  Do we rejoice always or are we burdened and beaten down by sorrow?  Do we have a praying spirit or a dead, lifeless one? Do we praise God in all trials or constantly murmur, complain, fret and respond with impatience? If we are honest with ourselves, we know if we are being stubborn, selfish, pr...

Friendship with God

Psalm 38:15 But for you, oh Lord, do I wait; It is You, oh Lord, my God, who will answer.   Those who are in Christ, have a unique friendship with God, developed in the context of His covenant with us. It is close, honest, encouraging, edifying, meaningful, and joyful. It is a real friendship. In any such relationship, sometimes we have to apologize.  The words, “ I’m sorry”, go along way.  Especially if we mean them. Remorse is not a pleasant emotion, but it helps us to understand the gravity of our mistakes, and reminds us we do not want to make the same mistake again. In a friendship with God, a mistake is called a “sin” and there is no other way to deal with sin, then to repent. Godly sorrow over our sins, and turning from wrong behavior (sin), is turning back to God and gives us true freedom. Refusing to repent, or trying to manage our sin using the world’s methods may give some temporary relief, however, the cancerous nature of sin will continue to grow, if not hand...

Well, What Do You Know?

Image
2 Timothy 3:7 (NASB) always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Consistent time in prayer and in God’s Word will help you avoid jumping from one belief to another. God desires you to be confident about Him and to know what it is that He wants. He wants you to understand His way. If you understand His way you will not have to seek this religion or that religion, this way of worship or that way of worship, this belief system or that belief system. Reassurance comes from knowing God and peace comes from living what He has told you (Isaiah 32:17). Many go from conservative to contemporary, formal to informal because they are searching. God has already spoken. When we avoid time in His Word, avoid looking at our sin, and ignore what He is said we will search for something. A subtle dissatisfaction will drive us to seek out something that will make us feel good. Changing churches or adopting a new belief system can bring temporary relief. In your own power you will...
