Knowing God’s Will
If you want to know God’s will, read your Bible!
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
When you’re looking for guidance, and seeking God’s will for your life, you can find the answers you’re looking for by simply seeking His will in His word (the Bible) and adjusting your life to what He shows you.
Jeremiah 33:3
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
God will teach you His principles and guide you as you open the Bible and seek Him in His word.
Do your attitudes and actions line up with what you read there?
Each of us must be willing to square up to what He shows us about ourselves in His word and be willing to change.
We are sinful and must allow God to cleanse our hearts through His gift of repentance. The Bible is clear about this.
Acts 3:19-20
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus...
When we accepted Christ into our hearts, we became “born again” believers and His Holy Spirit came to live in us as our helper.
John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
We have a daily choice to allow Him to guide and direct us or we can stubbornly try to live life our own way.
Proverbs 3:5-8
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
We grow in our relationship with the Lord, learning to walk with Him, through prayer, reading the Bible and obedience.
Isaiah 30:21
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.
When we are walking closely with the Him and truly desiring His will for our lives, God will place His desires in our hearts. The key is wanting God’s will, not our own and desiring to grow closer to Him. We do this by reading the Bible, learning His teachings, praying and responding in obedience.
As we seek God’s will, remember this, God expects us to obey what we already know before He shows us something new. Step by step obey Him and you will be walking in His will.
Psalm 37:3-5
Trust in the LORD, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.
